Prince Edward Island Invite 141 Candidates in a New PNP Draw

On April 21, Prince Edward Island conducted a new provincial draw in which it issued Invitations to Apply (ITA) to 141 skilled worker and entrepreneur candidates. 

Invitations were issued under Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) streams including Labour Impact, Express Entry, and Business Impact. Where 130 out of the 141 invites were issued to Labour Impact and Express Entry candidates, and the remaining 11 to Business Impact candidates. Candidates applying under the PEI PNP Business Impact stream required a minimum score of 67 points. 

Prince Edward Island issued a total of 1,933 invites in 2021, compared to 1,955 invites back in 2020.

Considering the 2021 invites, 1,764 out of the 1,933 invites were issued to Labour Impact and Express Entry candidates and the remaining 169 to Business Impact candidates.

Prince Edward Island Express Entry Stream

PEI’s Express Entry stream manages candidates already in the Federal Express Entry Pool for a provincial nomination. Such provincial nominations from a PNP automatically award a candidate with 600 additional points to their Comprehensive Ranking System - CRS score. Securing a provincial nomination effectively guarantees an Invitation to Apply in a subsequent Express Entry draw. The PEI PNP offers direct pathways to Canadian Permanent Residency – one for candidates with a job offer, and one for those without. 

Prince Edward Island Labour Impact Category

PEI’s Labour Impact Category features two sub-streams:

Skilled Worker Stream

This stream is meant for immigrating skilled workers with a valid job offer in PEI to be nominated for Canada PR. Candidates immigrating under the Skilled Worker Stream must meet the following criteria:

• A valid job offer from a PEI employer in an occupation classified as skill level 0, A, or B in the NOC list. 
• A post-secondary education with a minimum of 14 years of formal education. 
• Between the ages of 21 and 55 years.
• Minimum 2 years of full-time work experience in the past 5 years.
• Required language proficiency in English or French.
• Required settlement funds. 
• Intent to settle in Prince Edward Island.

Critical Worker Stream

This stream is meant to support and sustain labor market shortages in PEI. This stream is open for foreign workers already residing in PEI – with employment in specific in-demand occupations. Candidates immigrating under the Critical Worker Stream must meet the following criteria:

• A valid job offer from a PEI employer in an occupation classified in occupations including Truck Driver, Customer Service Representative, Labourer, Food and Beverage Server, and Housekeeping Attendant. 
• 6 months of work experience with the employer offering the job. 
• Valid Canadian Work Permit. 
• A high school diploma with a minimum of 12 years of formal education. 
• Between the ages of 21 and 55 years.
• Minimum 2 years of full-time work experience in the past 5 years.
• Required language proficiency in English or French.
• Required settlement funds. 
• Intent to settle in Prince Edward Island.

Prince Edward Island Business Impact Category

Candidates immigrating under PEI’s Work Permit Stream need to acquire a Canadian work permit and work for a PEI employer – for a certain amount of time as justified in the Performance Agreement. 

Once candidates fulfil the Performance Agreement, they need to make a minimum investment of $150,000 in the specific business and commit to managing and operating on a daily basis from within PEI.
