Ontario looking to call a greater number of immigrants

Every year, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) distribute a certain number of nominations to the provinces and territories that operate Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

In 2021, Ontario received an allotment of 8,350 nominations plus an additional 250 nominations for temporary foreign workers in intermediate expert professions, NOC Skill Level C.

Ontario had issued 8,600 nominations as of November 10, 2021. However, in an October interview, Ontario's immigration minister, Monte McNaughton, told CIC Times that the province is requesting the federal government to quadruple its allotment for the next year.

Ontario recently passed the Working for Workers Act, which, among other things, would aid immigrant workers to integrate into regulated businesses outside of the health care sector. In addition, it would restrict regulatory authorities from needing Canadian work knowledge, eliminate the requirement to take a language exam for licensing, and speed up the licensing procedure, particularly in emergency situations.
