New Brunswick PNP has finally opened its immigration streams after a long delay. However, this year, permanent resident nominations will decrease by 50%. The province was allocated only 2,750 spots for 2025, reminding it to prioritize specific sectors and impose restrictions on others.
The available 2,750 nominations will be divided as follows:
Jean-Claude D’Amours, the acting Minister of Post-Secondary Education has expressed his concern over the reduction of the provincial allocations. It would limit the economic growth and the businesses in the province.
The table below shows the current status of each stream:
Stream | Status | Details |
New Brunswick Express Entry | Wiil begin to accept new Expressions of Interest (EOIs) under two pathways in coming weeks | Will accept NOIs under: - The Employment in New Brunswick pathway; and - New Brunswick Interests pathway. |
New Brunswick Strategic Initiative | Will not accept new EOIs at this time | This stream has sufficient inventory and is not seeking new applications. |
Private Career College Graduate Program | Accepting EOIs | Set to end in autumn of 2025. |
New Brunswick Skilled Worker | Starting to accept EOIs | Has branched into three streams. |
New Brunswick Business Immigration | Accepting EOIs | Applicants can apply for a nomination if their business has been running for six months or longer. |
New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot | Accepting applications | N/A. |
Atlantic Immigration Program | Accepting applications | N/A. |
While it is uncertain if New Brunswick can secure additional nominations, the provincial government has raised concerns with federal authorities, and discussions are ongoing. The government is keen on focusing on sectors like healthcare, technology and education.
Newfoundland and Labrador PNP recently reversed a 50% cut in its immigration spaces by agreeing to welcome 290 humanitarian immigrants over the next three years. This model suggests that New Brunswick may have to negotiate a similar agreement to regain lost nominations.
The Express Entry stream will soon reopen under two pathways:
1. Employment in New Brunswick
2. New Brunswick Interests
However, certain occupations are ineligible including:
The Skilled Worker Program has been split into three pathways, each with its eligibility criteria:
1. New Brunswick Work Experience Pathway
2. New Brunswick Graduates Pathway
3. New Brunswick Priority Occupations Pathway
Several occupations, including shippers, bartenders, food service workers, and laborers are not eligible under this program.
Conclusion
New Brunswick's immigration landscape is shifting, with stricter sector prioritization and stream modifications. Prospective immigrants should stay updated on evolving policies by the provincial government as further changes might be announced soon.
