Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced a significant update related to Canadian immigration. The department plans to remove points for job offers under the Express Entry system, effective spring 2025.
This temporary measure aims to discourage fraud activities, particularly the illegal buying and selling of LMIA which candidates have used to boost their chances for PR. Earlier, candidates can receive an additional 50 or 200 CRS points.
The removal of Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for job offers will affect all new and existing candidates in the Express Entry pool, including those currently “working in Canada temporarily.”
In their announcement, IRCC did not differentiate between job offers across various economic sectors, instead stating that the change will apply to “all candidates with job offers” once implemented.

Note: Within the Express Entry system, “candidates” refer to individuals who have submitted a profile to the Express Entry pool for consideration. Once a candidate receives an ITA based on their profile, they can submit a PR application to IRCC, transitioning them to “applicant” status.
The decision to remove additional points for job offers in the Express Entry system supports Canada’s commitment to maintaining integrity in its immigration processes. It is a temporary change that will remove the fraud.
