IRCC Announces Work Permit Extension for PGWP Holders!

Good news!

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have extended the Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) by an additional 18 months.

Here’s what you need to know about this announcement.

  • As of April 06, applicants with an expiring or expired PGWP will now be able to apply for an Open Work Permit (OWP).
  • The extension will provide international students and Canadian graduates in the coming months with more time to gain valuable work experience, contribute to the Canadian economy, and become eligible to apply for Canada PR.
  • IRCC has stated that the extension will apply to all international students who have graduated from a Canadian institution since January 2020 or who will graduate in the coming months.

The extension of the PGWP is a significant announcement by the IRCC, which is sure to benefit applying for – or on a Canada Study Visa.
