The Government of Northwest Territories was all set to reopen the Northwest Territories Nominee Program on 16 January 2025. But, now the government has delayed the re-opening and the new date will be announced “as soon as possible’.
All the aspiring immigrants who wish to apply for Canada PR will have to wait till the next announcement. For the January 2025 intake, the Government will accept 100 new complete applications for the NTNP and establish specific quotas for each stream.
In 2024, the NTNP was allocated 300 nominations, but as of January 15, 2025, this allocation has been halved to 150 nominations. This decision follows the federal government's reduction in the NTNP's allocation for permanent residence nominations.
In light of the reduced allocation, the GNWT has postponed the program's re-opening to reassess its plans for 2025. This decision aligns with the federal government's broader adjustments to the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
According to the Canada Immigration Levels Plan, the federal government has set a target of 55,000 landings for the PNP, a significant 50% decrease from the 110,000 target in 2024. Overall, the PNP faced disproportionately larger cuts.
The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) is a Canadian immigration program designed to attract skilled workers, businesspeople, and entrepreneurs to the Northwest Territories (NWT). Operated in partnership with IRCC, it helps address labor market needs in the region.
The NTNP has several streams, including the Skilled Worker Stream, Critical Impact Worker Stream, Entrepreneur Stream, and Express Entry Stream, catering to varying profiles. Applicants need a valid job offer from an NWT employer or must meet the entrepreneurial requirements.
Benefits of the program include faster processing times for permanent residency and opportunities to work in a dynamic and unique environment. The NWT’s growing economy and diverse industries make it an attractive destination for immigrants seeking stability and want to immigrate to Canada.
The GNWT is aware of the inconvenience this announcement will cause to the applicants and the uncertainty attached to it. However, the government assures its potential applicants that they remain committed to re-opening the NWT.
The Government of the Northwest Territories acknowledges the various organizations that continue to advocate for successful immigration to the Northwest Territories and looks forward to further engagement.
