Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is preparing aggressively to send out invitations to potential sponsors. The department has confirmed that starting May 21, 2024, it will be issuing 37,000 invitations with a target of approving 20,500 complete applications.
Candidates who submitted an interest to sponsor form under PGP in 2020 for the 2024 intake are eligible to be considered in the upcoming PGP round of invitations.
The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) works on a lottery system and invites sponsors randomly. If you’re invited, an email will be sent to you that you provided on the interest to sponsor form. Your parents and grandparents will be able to come and live in Canada with you as permanent residents.

If you are invited, check your email on the day of PGP reopening and for the subsequent two-week period. Apply through Permanent Residence Portal, or the Representative Residence Portal before the deadline cited in the email.
Every year, the IRCC sets out its Immigration Levels Plan to guide its operations. Under the Canada Immigration Level Plans for 2024-2026, Canada aims to welcome 32,000 immigrants through the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) Looking ahead to 2025 and 2026, the target is even higher - 34,000 parents and grandparents.
