Canada Announces Changes to Express Entry Categories in 2025

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced the Express Entry categories for 2025. These include a new education category designed to align the selection of federal economic immigrants with Canada’s long-term labour market needs.

In 2025, federal economic class draws will primarily focus on inviting candidates with Canadian work experience (Canadian Experience Class) to apply for PR. These measures emphasize Canada’s focus on welcoming skilled workers who can contribute to the nation’s future.

Additionally, to support Francophone immigration targets and address critical shortages in health care, trades, and education, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will conduct category-based invitation rounds for candidates with strong French skills and work experience.

The current categories for the Express Entry draw are as follows:

  • French-language proficiency
  • Healthcare and Social service occupations
  • Agriculture and agri-food occupations
  • Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) occupations

Express Entry Categories in 2025

Express Entry categories are determined by the Canadian government to fulfill its economic needs. The occupation draws are included to fulfill the labour requirements of specific occupations in a certain area of Canada.

On the other hand, French language proficiency categories are there to promote the French language and show its support towards bilingualism. Canada is trying its best to accommodate diversity and welcome newcomers.
